Meta launched a WhatsApp MCP. Here's what it does — and doesn't.
Meta's WhatsApp Business Tools MCP lets coding agents handle WhatsApp setup and templates. How it compares with an operations-focused MCP server like SendFromChat.

On September 15, 2026 Meta announced the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, an MCP server that connects AI coding agents — Claude, Cursor, Codex and ChatGPT among them — to the WhatsApp Business Platform (TechCrunch coverage). It's a strong signal: Meta itself now expects developers to set up WhatsApp through AI agents.
What Meta's MCP focuses on
According to the announcement, it handles the setup and configuration side:
- creating accounts, verifying phone numbers and registering for the Cloud API,
- creating and editing message templates,
- testing messages and webhooks,
- surfacing problems such as payment or business-verification failures.
It's aimed at developers integrating WhatsApp into their own systems.
What it leaves to you
The coverage doesn't describe the day-to-day operations a business runs: importing contact lists, bulk sends paced under messaging limits, an inbox for replies, auto-replies and opt-out handling, chatbot flows, drip sequences and reporting.
That's the part SendFromChat focuses on.
Setup vs operations
| Meta's WhatsApp Business Tools MCP | SendFromChat | |
|---|---|---|
| Account and number setup | Yes — its core purpose | Guided walkthrough (dashboard and chat) |
| Templates | Create and edit | Create with Meta's rules checked first, track approval |
| Contact lists from CSV/Excel | — | Yes |
| Bulk sends with pacing and warm-up | — | Yes |
| Inbox and replies | — | Yes |
| Auto-replies, STOP handling | — | Yes |
| Chatbot flows, drip sequences | — | Yes |
| Dashboard for non-developers | — | Yes |
Based on Meta's announcement as reported; Meta may add more over time.
They work well together
MCP clients can connect to several servers at once. A sensible developer setup: use Meta's MCP to configure the account, and SendFromChat to run the messaging — both from the same assistant.
Either way the direction is clear: WhatsApp is becoming something you operate by talking to an agent. Try SendFromChat free for 30 days.

Why we built SendFromChat
WhatsApp is where customers answer. The Business API is powerful but painful. AI assistants can now do the painful part — so we built WhatsApp you run from chat.
